The LEAP and 8.5 programs are intensive educational programs designed for 7th and 8th grade students who are academically “at-risk”. Students in these programs have been retained at least once, are generally two years above age, and have demonstrated problems in attendance, educational priorities, attitude, behavior, or a combination of these.
Students participating in either of these programs are expected to develop good study habits and maintain positive attitudes toward their work. Positive student behavior with an emphasis on academics is expected at all times.
Parents who allow their children to enter either of these programs are expected to be supportive of the Lee County School System’s expectation of academic excellence in carrying out the terms of this contract. Parents are encouraged to become involved in their student’s progress as well as offer encouragement and support to students, teachers and school.
The LEAP and 8.5 programs are not for all students. Students who do not successfully complete the objectives or who demonstrate negative behaviors, attitudes and attendance, or fail to meet the terms of this contract will be removed from the program and may be placed back into their grade at Lee County Middle School or may be placed in a discipline class at the TLC.
